My daughter and husband practice their synced lightsaber moves/stances under the orange rising moon. The lightsabers glow purple and blue.
Lightsaber Training under the Moonrise
Issue 170: Open
November 2023
Even a small moon can have a big impact on the calmness of an experience. Watching the Earthshine as the moon followed the sun below the horizon while waiting for the stars to come out for the night was so peaceful, a real big breath of fresh air in the farmlands of South Texas.

Highlights Issue Vol. 23
November 2023
I was one of 7 artists featured in this highlight issue! Most of the work in the magazine is portrait photography, it’s nice that I can still find ways to enter my night photography in many of the issues.

Image Name: Fireflies and Rye. Fireflies are like twinkling stars we can hold in our hands. They bring the magic of the cosmos closer to the ground. The blueness of the rye and pops of color from the yellow rocket mimic the cold metal of the grain bin and dancing light from the fireflies. The same tones sparkle in the night sky and Milky Way above this Midwest farm yard. While admiring the blue hue of the rye and chasing fireflies all over my sister’s farm, I created this image on a summer night in June 2023.

Image Name: A Shooting Star Shoots for the Milky Way. A night under the stars feels more complete if a shooting star makes an appearance. Star therapy is all about immersing yourself in the deep breath of the universe. Centering your mind, and embracing how the stars and night air can calm your soul.

Image Name: Bunnies Dancing Under Full Moonlight. This statue has been screaming moonrise to me for a while. I have yet to find my opportunity to go at the right moment, but I couldn't wait to create the concept any longer. I took a rainy day trip the day before the full moon in September 2023, the last supermoon of the year, to the "bunny park" to capture the statue. The following night for the full moon, I went to the roof of my home as the moon was rising above the trees. I worked hard to put the images together and make it feel like the rabbits are actually dancing in the moonlight

Image Name: Strong as the Wind. There is a certain strength represented in this image, I believe. Wind Turbines are so giant, like sentinels watching over the land. On this night, in the moonless dark, my friend and I had a particularly hard time determining if this turbine had actually stopped moving after making us jump out of our skin by starting up randomly. The answer was no, it takes a very long time after the noises stop for the blades to completely halt.

Image Name: Moonrise in Dayton. Sometimes even light pollution can look good. Thank you, Jupiter for sticking around as long as the clouds would allow. I had been planning this image for a few months, but clouds kept getting in the way of the full moon. Instead of putting it off any longer, my family and I went to the river downtown when there was supposed to be a clear pocket of sky. I didn’t think the clouds would move away in time, but they sure did! Even though it was the night after the full moon and it was cold, we had a lovely October evening together watching the moon rise behind the Dayton, Ohio skyline. Sometimes even if something doesn’t seem to be probable, it’s worth a try- it might just be wonderful.

Cori Jackson is owner and creator of Cojack Photography. She lives in Dayton, Ohio, where she specializes in nightscape photography. Cori earned her photography degree from a small community college in Michigan in 2006. Her early career found her working as a portrait photographer, transitioning to a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her daughter. Years later, in 2022, Cori discovered Milky Way photography and quickly became an alumni of The Night Photography Academy, learning how to photograph and edit images under the night sky. This was her gateway back into the world of professional photography. She created Cojack Photography to share her nightscape photography art, and show how the night sky can calm the soul. Cori’s work has been featured in a local calendar by the Beaver Creek Wetland Association, as well as issues of The Photograp[her] Magazine, and Colorshot Magazine.
