The Moon. Lunar Photography.
“Look at the moon!”
This is a phrase my family hears me shout all too often, day and night.
I have such a love for the moon. It started at a young age, and has never faltered. Even when your sky is full of light pollution, you are still able to see the beautiful moon, and the moon can see you back.
Image Name: Moon Phases. A collection of different moon phases I have photographed in 2023 put into one artful image. The full moon is lovely and bright, but other phases of the moon are beautiful as well. The side lighting on a gibbous or crescent moon present depth and detail missed during the full front light of a full moon. I designed this image horizontally, but it also works well presented vertically. “The moon is a reminder that no matter what phase I am in, I am still whole.” -Unknown CLICK THE IMAGE FOR MORE STORY!
Image Name: The Sun and The Moon. The Blue Supermoon in August 2023 was about to rise. I noticed at the park there was a community garden, so I ran over to check it out. As the sun set, I snapped some pictures of this sunflower before running back over to the pond to watch the moonrise. I made an HDR image of the sunflower and put it in front of that night's super bright supermoon. The last full moon of the summer, and the flower that follows the sun. Image Name: Colors Under the Moon. Testing new equipment can make you think differently. I felt like a paparazzi photographing these colorful glass panels at the park from so far away. I don't think of my foreground photography in terms of 500mm focal lengths, but I was testing a very old lens by shooting the moon, and I wanted these bright colorful panels from the shadow play area of the park to go with it. Luckily the light from the restroom building was up for the job of backlighting them for me, so the colors really pop!

Image Name: Bunnies Dancing Under Full Moonlight. This statue has been screaming moonrise to me for a while. I have yet to find my opportunity to go at the right moment, but I couldn't wait to create the concept any longer. I took a rainy day trip the day before the full moon in September 2023, the last supermoon of the year, to the "bunny park" to capture the statue. The following night for the full moon, I went to the roof of my home as the moon was rising above the trees. I worked hard to put the images together and make it feel like the rabbits are actually dancing in the moonlight.

Image Name: Waning Gibbous 500mm Moon. The side lighting of the different phases of the moon bring out so much detail on the surface! This is a waning gibbous moon from August 2023, this is the phase after a full moon as it's shrinking to new again.

Image Name: Wind Turbine Moonset, Star Rise. As the sun sets, with the moon close behind, the Milky Way begins to shine in South Texas. Even a small moon can have a big impact on a scene. With the rainbow colors lingering from the sunset, and the Earthshine glowing around the crescent moon, the stars begin to engulf you in a calm that only the night sky can offer. And since everything is bigger in Texas, including the skies, the calm feeling of a scene like this is more serene than usual.

Image Name: Crescent Mineral Moon. Mineral moons are so colorful. A huge shift from the normal images of almost black and white or red looks of our magnificent moon. This is 30 images stacked and the saturation slowly and strategically increased to bring out the colors in the moon. Pink colors indicate iron-poor, aluminum-rich feldspars (which is a group of rock-forming tectosilicate minerals) that make up the lunar highlands. Orange and purple indicate regions that are relatively poor in titanium and iron.
