Hobbit Holes and Cosmos

I knew the first time I saw these hobbit houses in a hill on the side of the road I wanted to make this image. I also knew it would have to be a composite. They were on the wrong side of the road for the Milky Way, plus there was no clear view of the sky. So I took the foreground picture, and then used a Milky Way image from an area with similar light pollution, and made my dream reality. The April Milky Way was the perfect angle to mimic the hill the little homes were built into, and skim along the rooves and beyond into the sky.

My little nephew was turning 1, and there was going to be a party! These houses are on the way to my brother’s house, and I had been waiting for the opportunity to visit so I could stop off and get the photo I had been planning for months. The timing was perfect! If only the Hobbits inside would have turned on their lights.
